Neurophysiology Intraoperative Monitoring Specialist -Neurophysiology Labratory

This is a full time exempt position at our Cherry Hill Campus in Seattle. This position is eligible for our full suite of employee benefits, including medical, dental and vision coverage, generous 401(k) plan, commuter programs, and continuing education assistance.

Responsibilities
Performs all modalities of Neurophysiology/Neurovascular and other Intraoperative Monitoring with minimal supervision.  Specifically this will include, but is not limited to: cerebellopontine angle tumor surgery, intracranial tumor and aneurysm surgery/procedures, spinal surgeries including surgery for spinal deformity, thoracic aortic aneurysm surgery, and peripheral nerve surgeries.  Participates in the development, selection, and implementation of software and procedures needed to provide optimal monitoring.  Provides adequate recordings with proficiency in troubleshooting technical problems, keeps the surgeons and IOM physicians informed of any significant changes, including the loss of waveforms being monitored.

 
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required, BS in Neuroscience preferred, masters degree in scientific discipline related to the biological sciences and in particular to Neuroscience desirable.  Education to include course work in anatomy, neurophysiology and preferably experience in neurophysiology and neuroanatomy. ABRET - CNIM licensure by the American Board of Neurophysiologic Monitoring or expectation of licensure within 18 months. At least two years of Intraoperative Monitoring experience strongly preferred. Requires high level of interpersonal skills necessary to exchange information with physicians, office staff, and other technical personnel and to train technical staff. Demonstrated ability to effectively teach new technologists.
 

Understanding of all relevant anatomy, neurophysiology and surgeries. Analytical skills to perform testing under minimal supervision in the operating room with the ability to contact medical staff when appropriate. A comprehensive understanding of intraoperative EEG, EMG, and EP’s is necessary, as is understanding of the steps of common surgical procedures.  Ability to analyze patient history, determine appropriate testing procedures, proper equipment functioning, troubleshooting of equipment malfunctions, eliminate recording artifacts, calculate test results and compose preliminary reports.  Experience with networking and computer programming.  Ability to monitor all Swedish Neuroscience Institute modalities of monitoring independently.  Understanding of, and ability to fully program and troubleshoot, IOM equipment.
